With the help of a local drama therapist, integratedliving clients from the Woy Woy Activity Centre have created and starred in a short film. Titled 'Miscommunication', the film is a comedy and was written and directed by client, John.
Team member of Dementia Services team for the NSW Central Coast, Kerry Garth, said she had hoped to have a drama therapist work with clients for some time.
“Dannielle had just finished her studies and chose to do her work placement with us. She is full of energy and the customers love her,” said Kerry.
“Putting the film together has been so exciting for the customers and staff. The customers have worked hard and were very particular about getting all the details right”.
“For some of our customers living with dementia, they don’t get to work through projects and see something at the end but with the film they have seen the results of their hard work”.
“John used to be a film critic and his carer commented that he is often withdrawn when in social situations and feels pressure to hide having dementia”.
“John could really be himself in the film and when his carers saw the film, it brought them to tears to see John enjoying himself again,” added Kerry.
